A letter of apology from Harry Hallam: He wrote that he had an E.E.S. Co. Cable, but he meant a CD 252  E.S.S. Co. cable and No. 401 on the back. (January 1970, page 28)  He would like to know how many other collectors have this insulator?  Don't feel badly, Hank.  We all make mistakes once in a while.

A question from Bert and Boots Otto of Boise, Idaho, regarding CD 740 threadless Foster Bros. 1858 insulator.  All we have ever read about them says they are olive green.  Ours is definitely brown.  No green tinge at all.  Is this different, or are there brown ones?  Would appreciate knowing.  Thank you.

Any of your threadless collectors able to help with this?  Editor

Bart Magoffin writes:

Here are some insulator I would like to find something about, mainly how many collectors have them and the name of the company that made them.  Any such information on any of these would be greatly appreciated.

  (A) This insulator is aqua and has nothing written on it.  The drawing just gives you the general "signal" shape.  Really, the upper ridge sticks out much farther than the base.

(B) This insulator is aqua and NO. 48-40 written on the skirt.  (CD 153)

(C) This insulator is white pottery and has CPR (Canadian Pacific Railroad) written on the top of the dome.

(D) This insulator (similar to Tibbitts 2-20) is aqua.  Mold line over dome and swirl start on threads.  On the front of the dome is written:  W. BROOKFIELD / 55 FULTON ST / N.Y.  On the back side of the dome is written:  PAT. FEB. 22nd 1870 / JAN 25th 1870 / JAN 14th 1879.

Here are some sketches sent in by Mrs. Robert Crane of Cape Elizabeth, Maine.  You are right, Mrs. Crane --- these are lightning rod insulators.
